The 3-inch Matte Green is a glazed ceramic plant pot with a center drainage hole and a matching saucer, and it is proof we kept trying long after it stopped making commercial sense. We have always loved combining gloss and matte finishes, a preference that did not serve us well in the early years of this studio, when nobody else was particularly interested in a pot that could not decide on a single sheen. The early failures were instructive, mostly in teaching us how badly a half-committed sheen can go wrong before it goes right.
Glazed ceramic holds moisture more evenly than raw terracotta, and the finish resolves a little differently on every pot. We tried the matte-and-gloss idea anyway, and it failed, repeatedly, in ways we do not need to detail here. The three-inch Matte Green exists because we believed in the combination past the point of good business sense, and at this size you can see exactly what we were so stubborn about.
